Growing up, I often saw families in my community struggle to balance caregiving with their own lives. Adults and seniors were left at home, isolated or overlooked, not because their families didn’t care but because there weren’t enough safe, supportive, and enriching places for them to go. Watching this unfold, I felt a tug in my heart. What if there could be a place that didn’t just “look after” people but helped them thrive?

That question became the seed for the We Care Adult Drop-In Center.

Hi, I’m Detra Davie, and caring for people has always been more than a profession for me; it’s my calling. I started this center here in Southfield, Michigan, with a simple belief: every person deserves dignity, respect, and connection, no matter their age or circumstance.

From day one, my vision was never to be “just another program.” I wanted to create a space where participants feel seen, families feel peace of mind, and the community feels stronger because of the connections built inside our walls.
